Frequently Asked Questions

Q   What is an LED?
A   LEDs, or Light Emitting Diodes are a type of "silicon semiconductor" (think of a computer chip) that happens to emit light when electrical power is applied to it.  LEDs have a big advantage over fluorescents, metal halides, and high pressure sodium bulbs because energy is not wasted heating up a gas to make it give off light.

Q

Why red and blue lights?

A   It is important to have a mix of these colors, or wavelengths, and they must be carefully balanced to provide optimal plant growth.  These two colors, or wavelengths, when carefully balanced, provide optimal plant growth. Too much of either can cause undesirable results.  Red light is the primary energy source for plants. Everything from vegetative growth to fruiting is driven by the energy received from red light.  Blue light is responsible for regulating stomatal opening (plant breathing), phototropism (growth towards light) and photo morphogenesis (plant shape).

Q

LEDs vs. conventional grow lights?

A

LEDs are more efficient than conventional lights, and do not waste energy producing lots and lots of heat. This corresponds to a savings of electricity, little heat, and long life.

Q

What distance should the Procyon 100 be placed above my plants?

A

The optimum distance is 2-3’ from the plant tops. This provides a coverage area of approximately 10 square feet. Because there is very little heat given off the Procyon 100, plants can grow right up to the light without fear of burning them to a crisp.

Q   Why don't you sell other lights?
A   We want to provide the BEST LED grow lights.  The Procyon 100 is the best.  There are other grow lights out there, but they don't perform as well, and what's worse, they're made in China!  The Procyon 100 beat all of our expectations, so we became a factory authorized distributor!

Q   Where can I find more information on your LED lights?
